Self Discipline - I guess this is my first post on my new blog.
It's October 25th, 2021, and since being self-employed I've needed to give myself deadlines to work towards because there's no-one breathing down my neck to get things done. So, I'm hoping to be able to go live with this site by my birthday, November 11th. I'm going to be turning 45. I have no idea what I'll be doing on the day itself, that remains to be seen. But five years ago on my 40th birthday, I held a party and invited 40 people. I bought 40 cupcakes and had a fun night with my friends.
Exactly six months before my 40th, I'd asked a friend their opinion on what should I focus on for the next 6 months.... Should I try to save money? Should I take up a new hobby? Should I get fit? They said "get fit"! I took their advice and started running, well, jogging. By the time my birthday rolled around I was running 5km three times a week. I felt great. I was in control.
It is hard to be accountable to yourself at times, it is hard to see what is needed for progress and growth to happen. Sometimes you just need someone else to give you a kick up the backside. Hopefully that person has your best intentions in mind! My friend that day had my best intentions in mind.
Things got in the way of me keeping up with the running, but the discipline I found in sticking to the running thing stayed. I have much better self-discipline since embarking on that 6 month mission to get fit. I have used that increased self-discipline in many different areas of my life since then, and feel way more in control of my life these days.
Anyway, that's probably enough for my first blogpost for now. So you know, I'll be posting my past writings on this blog so you can get a better view of my journey to now.
